Cornell and Malcolm
son's article states that "freedom is not something that most people are
going to be inclined towards or be receptive to". I disagree with Cornell
and Malcolm Sons opinion, because most people don't know what freedom is until
they experience it. "In the Allegory of the Cave" by Plato a prisoner
lived his whole life in a cave. He and his friends were chained and started at
a wall in front of them. Behind them there was a fire burning and between them
and the fire there was a road. Daily people and animals were passing on the
road and the fire illuminated their shadows on the wall. They started at the
wall and they saw shadows and heard peoples echoes. It was their reality and
their life. They didn't know what freedom was because they never experienced
it. One day one of the prisoners was released, he became a free man. When he
got out he had to get used to his new life. He was blinded by the light and he
was amazed by everything he saw around him. He experienced a world outside the
cave, and it was nothing like he could imagine. The free man ran back to the
cave to share his fantastic stories of the outside world. His prisoner friends
which were still chained to that same wall couldn't recognize his voice. He was
just another shadow on the wall. The prisoners couldn't accept and believe him
because they never experienced all the things he did and saw. Only if the other
prisoners were released they would experience freedom and believe what his
friend was telling them.
