Blog Entry 4: My pace in the Cave

The allegory of the cave is written by the Greek Philosopher Plato. He wants to show a different ways of people's believing in a real or fake world. The allegory is also about how some people have power of educate themselves and some lack the belief or confidence. Plato describes in the story a dark cave with the prisoners chained and facing the wall their entire lives. They only see the shadows on the wall which was made by fire burning behind them. That was their real little world. One day, one of the prisoners was set free, and he run out of the cave and discover new world. He realize that these shadows were never real. That everything in cave is fake, and that outside world is beautiful and bright. He quickly returns to cave to share what he saw and discovered, but the other prisoners didn't believe him.

Blog Entry 3: "I Know the Truth"

The article " I know the truth, so don't bother me with fact" by Jeffrey Kluger explains why people are being emphatic to believe in gossip rather than facts. There was a new study done on people at Ohio State University by R.Kelly Gavrett and Erick N. who came to two conclusions, that it's easy to manipulate people's beliefs and that people won't change their mind even if evidence were presented to them. I agree with their conclusion about people believing more in gossip and flat-out lies instead of believing and learning the real facts. In my opinion most people don't want to put more effort into to learning facts they just take the easy way out and believe what they are told even if there is no evidence supporting the fact. An example of that would be the media lies and getting recommended seasonal flu shots.
Many of us watch daily news on t.v or read a daily newspaper. Everyday they present to us new data about crimes, accidents, politics, weather and much more. If anything happens anywhere at anytime reporters are there collecting facts write their new article to be posted the very next day. Isn't everything they said true? Should we believe it? How did it really happen? We don't know, but we can collect our own evidence, read it over again and think once again. For example, few weeks ago an accident occurred not far from my house. I heard police, ambulance, fire department driving in rush one after another to save someones life.  I had no idea what happened, until I went outside and got startled how something like this can take place in school zone early in the morning where children are walking to school. I asked myself why would a man drive into sidewalk and run over five people including four children. Everyone was willing to help anyway they could, and later the people were taken to the hospital. The culprit was identified in the newspaper, he said that he got confused with pedals. How can you get confused with the pedals? That makes no sense, I think if someone is to drive a car he should be focused on the road rather than his cellphone. In my opinion he was on his cell phone and he just lost control over the vehicle which swerved on  sidewalk.
Every year is a new season of flu and with it everyone is getting crazy to protect themselves against it. I had seen on television advertisement that informed that everyone should be vaccinated.  Every year all major  pharmacies offers new seasonal flu vaccinations. Most people strongly believe in vaccines and what they supposedly do to help us. We are told that we have to immunize ourselves with that, but they have no facts or proof that in fact they help us. Medias and physician advise us to take it but they don't give us more information about it for example if  they are safe for us , what they cause and what they are made from, and also the most important if they destroy our immune system. Thats our decision to make if I should take it or not. You should do your own research about it, find out the real facts. I know my best, I am not manipulated and I will never change my mind about it.
I think my given examples will support my ideas about peoples different beliefs. Always we should be open mind to all the information given us. We should have our own opinion, always stand for it and make our own decisions in life.

Blog Entry 2: I Know the Truth. "I know the truth"

In the article " I know the truth, so don't bother me with facts" the author, Jeffrey Kluger explains why people are being emphatic to believe in gossip rather than facts. The author includes in his passage the recent studies done by R. Kelly and Erick Nisbet based on "... 750 people who reported believing at least one of the rumors about the proposed Islamic cultural center. "The results of study came up with two conclusion that even with all the facts have been given, people keep their beliefs instead willing to change their opinion. People don't want to see the real facts on their own, they are easily manipulated by media and others lies what have been told or showed them by others. Most people don't want to be told that they are wrong, I strongly believe most of us too. As longest we will believe it in our own way, then nothing will change that.

Blog Entry 1: "Hype Revision"

The article "Hype" by Kalle Lasn is informing us about the negative impacts that advertisements have on our daily lives. I agree with the author's view on public announcements, because they have a big influence on our entire society. I strongly support the author's first sentence in the passage where it states ads "are the most prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants".  I agree with the author's opinion on advertisements how they pollute your mind and I believe they do and I can see them a lot in my life or around me.
Everyday we pass by many advertisements that are on everything informing us about new products and things you should buy. The author mentions bank machine, gas nozzles, billboards, shopping carts. Anywhere we look they're there and we can't do anything about it. He said in his passage that "There is nowhere to run." In fact, I agree we are hopelessly bombarded with advertisements everywhere we go. Pointless is to take a road trip through the countryside to rest your mind and eyes on beautifully view of nature because like author mentions there are a big billboards on the side of highway.
Too much of something can bring out negative effect. I understand some advertisements like ads that informs us about a jobs, service or product. I strongly disagree with companies selling by advertising cigarettes and alcohols. We all know, this type of advertisement can lead people to think they have to buy it to have fun and great time. Most damage is done to teens and minors, because they can be influence to smoke and drink which can bring negative effects on their health.
We are all intelligent people  and we should not let advertisements to control our life by what we buy, eat or drink. Advertisement are in ours life and always will be . Now is a start to be open mind it, and to know when is time to say "no" to them.
