Blog 11: Midterm Reflection

         
             I have written ten blog entries so far, and I'm looking forward to write more with improvements. One of my favorite blog entries I have written is blog entry number seven. The title is "The Truman Syndrome Revision."  This is my favorite blog because I really liked the topic we had to write about.  It was about "Truman Show Syndrome: Why people think they're living in a really show." Author's stated his opinion  and ideas very well , and also he gave examples which helped me to write a good essay. Information given in the article were also very good, and I agreed with the authors opinion on the topic. Most of the times I do have a problem to support my opinion with a good and well organized example. In this essay I didn't have  troubles, even while writing my conclusion.
         Every activity is helping me in order to progress with my writing and to get prepared for final examination. I have to say that I was very afraid about the blog entry idea. I am kind of shy about my writing and sharing it with my classmates. Now, I have change my mind about it, and I think it is very helpful because I can read other classmates blog and they can read mine. On top of that, I'm aware of that and I'm trying to do my best. The best activity we did, is a CAT-W practice exam because its like taking the real exam and we can see after grading how we did.
          After taking two CAT-W practice exams I have seen my mistakes. Now I know exactly where I need to work more In order to write a better essay . I do need to work with my development of ideas, sentences and words. Additionally, I should work on my grammar. More of my practice time I should put towards sentence structure as well as spelling issues. I should more often practice using a program called Freerice. Reading other  peoples essays who got a passing grade from CAT-W exam is really helping me with idea and response development.

Blog 10: "The Dangers of Reality TV"

              The article 'The Dangers of Reality TV" written by Timothy Sexton explains us how reality TV affects all of us including young fans. Sexton argues and states many different reasons that reality TV is bad for all of us. One of the reasons which is the most dangerous message to us is that, education isn't needed to fulfill the American dream. I agree with Sexton that a lack of ability is bad. However, I think that image and ability should walk together because the image give us a power or self-confidence in everyday life.
         We all know, that education is a key to a successful life.We all go to school to gain knowledge on any type of subject. We learn everything we need to move on in a life, and to graduate from school in order to obtain ability to practice our dream job. We teach our kids to do same as we did. We send them to school to learn, and to achieve their dreams. I strongly believe, that all of us pass on to children that education is the key to success. The only one more thing that we need to have is a passion for what we want to do or who to become. The reality Tv won't give us an education on any point. We all intelligent people and we should not let to our children watch Tv as much they do and get brainwashed on each day forward.
             The second reason which I disagree with the author is that somehow image and ability need to work out with one another. We all, should take care of ours image, how to dress up, walk and speak. Image is not only clothes we put on everyday. In my opinion image is much more than clothes, it's a way we present our self in public life. We all should take  control of our image, and gain skill to present our-self in very well, polite way in outside life. Each of us look and observe each  others to get the first impression, how the opposite person present yourself.
            In my conclusion, I would like to state once again that education, and an image is needed in our life. After all, education should come first and be taken seriously with passion to learn more. Image should work out with ability because, it gives us a self-confidence and the strength to drive us forward.

Blog 9

1.  I Am/ I Am not Living in The Matrix

I am not living in the matrix because I don't believe I do. I know that I make my own decisions in life. I'm in control of my daily life, If I want to go meet somebody or go someplace I go there. We are not made of computer code because we are energy, people are made up of atoms which are by science defined as energy. In school when I was looking at a slide through a microscope I did not see numbers and code.  If you look through a microscope you see that on a molecular level our bodies are made up of cells not some computer code. Our world is not dominated by robots that want to harvest our bodies for energy. We have the ability to build advanced machines so In my opinion they are in our matrix. We are the creators of our lives, we have the power to control our destiny.

2. Red Pill or Blue Pill?

I would not take the red pill and “see how far down the rabbit hole goes”, because I'm not interested in finding out rubbish. I think the pill made Neo hallucinate into believing that there was something called Matrix, but in fact he was never there. I believe he was on drugs like everybody else. If I had to choose I'd take the blue pill and go back to your ordinary life or not take it at all. If there was anything out there to discover why do you have to take a pill first. I would like to find out without taking a pill, never did Morpheus explain what the pill was made of or what was its purpose. 

Blog 8: Most People Do Not Want Freedom

Cornell and Malcolm son's article states that "freedom is not something that most people are going to be inclined towards or be receptive to". I disagree with Cornell and Malcolm Sons opinion, because most people don't know what freedom is until they experience it. "In the Allegory of the Cave" by Plato a prisoner lived his whole life in a cave. He and his friends were chained and started at a wall in front of them. Behind them there was a fire burning and between them and the fire there was a road. Daily people and animals were passing on the road and the fire illuminated their shadows on the wall. They started at the wall and they saw shadows and heard peoples echoes. It was their reality and their life. They didn't know what freedom was because they never experienced it. One day one of the prisoners was released, he became a free man. When he got out he had to get used to his new life. He was blinded by the light and he was amazed by everything he saw around him. He experienced a world outside the cave, and it was nothing like he could imagine. The free man ran back to the cave to share his fantastic stories of the outside world. His prisoner friends which were still chained to that same wall couldn't recognize his voice. He was just another shadow on the wall. The prisoners couldn't accept and believe him because they never experienced all the things he did and saw. Only if the other prisoners were released they would experience freedom and believe what his friend was telling them.

Blog Entry 7: The Truman Syndrome Revision

               The passage "Truman Show Syndrome: Why people think they're living in a reality show by, Colin Lecher tells us about how and why people think they're living in a reality show. Author said that, " People have always imagined things that aren't real-our culture just changes what those things are". On a New Yorker article, one question was asked based on the " Truman Show". The question was "What do you do when delusions and paranoia look an awful lot like the real world? "This is very hard for me to believe, but some people really do believe or extremely like to live in a show life, examples are  "Big Brother" or " Truman Show". Some people love to be in a t.v. show, because they want to become famous and for others its only way of living their unhappy life.
            I remember watching "Big Brother" when it first aired on t.v. I believe most people have watched it or heard about it. Back in the day it was very popular, and the people who were in it later became in some way famous or popular. Each person who followed the show had his or her admirer. This show was on t.v every night and we were watching their daily lives on live t.v. The contestants had to perform tasks and group activities to gather points in order to win the show. Every month one of the participant of this show had to go home because of earning less points. People who were watching were able to send a text message for the person they wanted to win. Some of these people in the realty show would argue about all kinds of issues between them , also sometimes fights were involved to protect themselves or to become famous. I think, some of these people haven't realized how deep this show took them to do anything in order to become whoever they wanted. They had lost their mind, sense of controlling themselves, got different personality and they don't know how to live outside , in the real world.
           The movie "Truman Show" illustrated the reality extremely well. This movie is about people who know that they are in the reality show and about one man named Truman. He has been there his whole life without know it what is going on around him. These people liked this idea to be in this show and agreed to perform their daily activity, any given task and they were very happy for it. They were told what to say, do and also they had their fake family. Truman was involved in this fake family world, he wasn't happy in his life, he always wanted to explore world go beyond the city. Truman wanted to take his wife with him but she always disagreed with him by giving him all kinds of excuses. Every time he wanted to do something, it was taken away from him, because always something happened on his way when he was ready to pursue. He had no idea that everything around him is unreal, and he has been watched by others people in the real world. He did find out, he was watching people around him. Everyone's daily life has been the same each day, everything became very strange for Truman. He ran away from this world , ready to explore the real one. He made his own decision about his life, and he spoke up for himself. He faced the fear, and did not give up. He wanted to live a normal life, to have real family and love. His dream became true and he entered the real world with a big smile.
          Today's world is surrounded by famous people, big reality stars , music stars, and much more to count. Many people wish for a little bit of this good life or to be the like super star from their famous reality show which they watch every evening. My opinion is that this crazy wealthy life is not needed to be happy in life and to move on step higher. The most important is to be real and have family around us who love us for who we are , and to give love back. Its okay to want things, but we have to be very careful what we wish for, too much of it is not healthy.

Blog Entry 6: The Truman Show.

                      

                  Truman has been chosen by Christof creator of the "Truman Show" to become a TV star, he was adopted by the corporation since the moment of his birth.  His entire life was taking place on a movie set  in Seahaven. Everything has been made for him, his job and family including his wife. He had an easy life but it was a fake life. He was never told what was going on the outside world , he had no idea who he really was and what was really going on. People were told what to say or do to him or reply. His whole life is a reality show for others entertainment, for other people in real life behind a television to enjoy him. People watch him day and night, observe his  each step and his private life. He thought he had a best friend since seven grade , but that was an ugly lie. One day he saw his dad on the way to work ,but his father was taken again away from him by some guys in suits. He started to question his Mom about his father. They were boating on sea together when Truman was a young teen boy and a big storm was made on purpose and at this time his dad disappeared in sea. His life had limits, he couldn't leave his town or go beyond the sea. He was not able to go out to other city and explore the world like he always wanted. That was his big dream, to explore the world. Even his wife was chosen for him but  he was in love with a different girl named Sylvia , love from first smile. He was always  thinking about her from the first day he saw her.  She too was taken away by one guy who pretended to be her father. She said to Truman to never believe them, his whole life was fake. He had no idea what she was talking about,  but he was more careful and focus around. One day he finally decided to run away and he did! He planned his run away act, with a boat. He faced his fear because he was afraid of water. Everybody in this city were looking for him, of course they found him, because everything was on camera. He was on boat trying to escape. He fought so hard, with a big storm which was made on purpose by Christof. Truman won, he was so happy to sail to his real world he wanted to discover and to find his love until the boat stopped. The boat never made it, he crashed into this big painted wall that looked like horizon. His hope of escaping was gone, but only for a few minutes when he founded steps and door to the real world. Before his entering the creator's voice came from sky , this man was trying to convince him to stay because he is a star and everybody loves him. Truman took a step forward his dream which he always dreamt about. Before taking his step up there he turn and said these words he always said " In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight" with a big ending smile on his face. I think, Truman will accept the real world how it is, because from the time he enter to this world, one of his dreams came true. That's real life. He will be satisfied with everything out there, and he will get closer to do things he would love to do, without everyone watching and looking out for him. He entered the real world with a relief on his face and he was ready to explore beyond his horizons. He was waiting so long for this day to come and for his true love Sylvia. Now, he has a chance to live his own true life.

Blog Entry 5: Revise Blog Entry 3

                 The article " I know the truth, so don't bother me with fact" by Jeffrey Kluger explains why people are being emphatic to believe in gossip rather than facts. There was a new study done on people at Ohio State University by R.Kelly Gavrett and Erick N. who came to two conclusions, that it's easy to manipulate people's beliefs and that people won't change their mind even if evidence were presented to them. I agree with their conclusion about people believing more in gossip and flat-out lies instead of believing and learning the real facts. In my opinion most people don't want to put more effort into to learning facts they just take the easy way out and believe what they are told even if there is no evidence supporting the fact.
                   Many of us watch daily news on t.v or read a daily newspaper. Everyday they present to us new data about crimes, accidents, politics, weather and much more. If anything happens anywhere at anytime reporters are there collecting facts write their new article to be posted the very next day. Isn't everything they said true? Should we believe it? How did it really happen? We don't know, but we can collect our own evidence, read it over again and think once again. For example, few weeks ago an accident occurred not far from my house. I heard police, ambulance, fire department driving in rush one after another to save someones life. I had no idea what happened, until I went outside and got startled how something like this can take place in school zone early in the morning where children are walking to school. I asked myself why would a man drive into sidewalk and run over five people including four children. Everyone was willing to help anyway they could, and later the people were taken to the hospital. The culprit was identified in the newspaper, he said that he got confused with pedals and the reporters believed him. How can you get confused with the pedals, didn't the reporters investigate to find out the truth? That makes no sense, I think if someone is to drive a car he should be focused on the road rather than his cellphone. In my opinion he was on his cell phone and he just lost control over the vehicle which swerved on sidewalk.
                Every year is a new season of flu and with it everyone is getting crazy to protect themselves against it. I had seen on television advertisement that informed that everyone should be vaccinated. Every year all major pharmacies offers new seasonal flu vaccinations. Most people strongly believe in vaccines and what they supposedly do to help us. We are told that we have to immunize ourselves with that, but they have no facts or proof that in fact they help us. Medias and physician advise us to take it but they don't give us more information about it for example if they are safe for us , what they cause and what they are made from, and also the most important if they destroy our immune system. Thats our decision to make if I should take it or not. You should do your own research about it, find out the real facts. I know my best, I am not manipulated and I will never change my mind about it.
             I think my given examples will support my ideas about peoples different beliefs. Always we should be open mind to all the information given to us. We should have our own opinion, always stand for it and make our own decisions in life. We cant let others to control our mind and influence the decisions we make about what to think say or what to believe.
